Welcome to my new blog - The Wandering Penguin!

Thomas Paine may have been writing about the American Revolution, but his words sure resonated with me. After 32 fatigue-inducing months supporting freedom in the military it's time to hit the road and see the world! I have lots of adventures coming up and after writing travel blogs during my previous trips to Iceland in 2014 and Antarctica in 2011 (links removed because I simply could not have these on the internet any longer), I've decided to use this blog as a space to share my experiences and photos with family and friends while on the road and possibly in future adventures, as well.

Over the next several months, I plan to spend a month volunteering in Kenya and then embark on the road trip of a lifetime - from southern Vietnam to Finland overland, crossing through China, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Central Asia and Russia. 26,000 kilometers of road and rail through some of the world's wildest regions should make for some stories and this is the platform to hear them firsthand.
